Sacred and contemporary art exhibition at Etienne de Causans

Paris, 4 August 2011

The Parisian gallery Étienne de Causans will host a surprising exhibition entitled “Art contemporain et Art sacré d’Asie: hommage au sublime” (Asian Contemporary and Sacred Art : a Tribute to the Sublime) from 14 to 24 September 2011.

The gallery director, Étienne de Causans, wished to illustrate the relationship between sacred and contemporary art. The event will feature paintings by Volkmar Ernst and Véronique Fortunade-Riboulot, as well as aboriginal works and Hindustani and Buddhist antiquities.

The paintings by Véronique Fortunade Riboulot, who has a unique brush-stroke, are realised in the style of Chinese calligraphies. She combines her vision of traditional Chinese calligraphy with her modern and Western experiences. Her works form a bridge between male and female, sky and earth and East and West.

Franco-German artist Volkmar Ernst’s works are lighter and he juxtaposes different materials. His abstract paintings have both bright and dark undertones. He also realises highly colourful portraits. His oeuvre is inspired by numerous sources, such as texts by St Jean de la Croix and jazz music.

These contemporary paintings will be displayed next to sacred works from India, Himalaya, Myanmar and Thailand. Contemporary Tibetan paintings by Thangka Newar will also feature at this novel exhibition.
