African and Oceanic sale at Sotheby’s Paris

Paris, 16 November 2011

Sotheby’s announced an upcoming African and Oceanic sale in Paris for the 14 December. One hundred pieces have been chosen including some which have never before been displayed in the market.

Two Yoruba/Nago faces from Benin (originally used for religious rituals), are estimated between €400,000-600,000 each. Not only are these pieces well conserved, but they are extremely rare and, evidently, highly appreciated.

Five typical African masks will most certainly appeal to various collectors. The masks come from Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Benin and Gabon. One mask comes from the former Félix Fénéon collection. These items are all estimated at €120,000-450,000.

Masterpieces of ivory will also be presented at the sale, as well as rare items from Pacific rituals.
