57th edition of Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair

Brussels, 17 November 2011

The 57th edition of Brussels Antiques & Fine Art Fair (BRAFA) will take place in the mail sorting station of “Thurn & Taxis” in Brussels, from 21 to 29 January 2012. The international fair is installed for the eighth consecutive year in the halls of this historical building situated along the Willebroek canal. The fair welcomes 130 galleries selected by a committee of experts, curators and other members of the cultural world. 40% of the galleries are Belgian, and the others represent a dozen different nationalities.

BRAFA honours western ancient, modern and contemporary art, whether it is painting, sculpture, art objects or photography, but also antiquities, Oceanic art, Tribal art and Oriental art. Almost 40,000 local and foreign visitors, art collectors and professionals attend the fair each year.

The guest of honour this year, will be Fondation Roi Baudouin who takes over the place of last year’s host, Mayer van den Bergh Museum in Anvers. The foundation will present masterpieces from its collection from Fonds du Patrimoine, made up of over 7,000 works.

Moreover, BRAFA is now taken a toll on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook to promote the fair, as have many other international art fairs and shows. The fair is also planning to launch iPhone and iPad applications which will present the opening of the fair through a virtual tour of the stands and detailed views of certain objects.
