The Frieze announced exhibitors’ list of for the first edition of Frieze Masters. This new fair specializes in Old Masters.
As stated by the Art Newspaper on 24 May, the list of exhibitors includes a selection of “Old Master connoisseurs, Oceanic art dealers, experts in Indian miniatures, a rug specialist, as well as a sizeable chunk of modern art dealers”. A total of 96 galleries will participate in this fair. Among them, 22 galleries were chosen to each present a single 20th century artist. As explained by the director, Victoria Siddall, thanks to this new art fair, she hopes to “offer a contemporary perspective on historical art”.
The Frieze Masters will take place at the same time as the 9th edition of the Frieze contemporary art fair in London from 11 to 14 October. The new fair will be located not far from the Regents Park where the contemporary fair is taking place. Architect Annabelle Selldorf, known for having renovated the Neue Galerie New York, will design the exhibition building.
