Néret-Minet & Tessier’s sale of Asian art and ancient objects

Paris, 23 February 2012

Néret-Minet & Tessier will be organising a sale of Asian art and archeological objects at the Hôtel de Ventes Drouot-Richelieu on Friday 2 March 2012, room 2.

From the Indu civilisation to Japanese prints, the sale offers a look at Asian art across various time periods and regions. The lots presented reflect a real cross-cultural experience between differing Asian societies. The trip begins with influences from Ancient Greece and Gandhâra, an ancient Persian kingdom situated in modern-day Pakistan. The auction then travels to the high hills of Vietnman, home to the Jarai people, before moving north towards China and finishing in Japan.

The sale presents statuettes of Buddha in both meditative and fasting positions—estimated between €9,000 and €15,000, objects from the Chinese Warring Dynasty (5th to 3rd century B.C), Han Dynasty (3rd century B.C.), Tang Dynasty (7th to 10th century), and the Qing Dynasty (12th century to 1912)—estimated at €1,200, €12,000, €7,000, and €1,800 respectively. The star piece, a Japanese print series of light summer fabrics by Utamaro, entitled Beauty trying on Kimono (around 1800), will also be featured and is valued at €1,200.
