African art specialist Jean-Claude Gouigoux has announced the publication of his second book on African art.
After the success of his first book, Comprendre l’art africain, published in 20008, Jean-Claude Gouigoux is publishing a second edition: Comprendre l’art africain, à travers ses objets les plus remarquables. Tome 2: Objets remarquables du Gabon. The first volume dealt with the characteristics of African art and with how it differs from Occidental art. As he explained in a press release, this is not only the design level of this art, but also the way it is supposed to be understood. Traditions and myths from different ethnic groups can be found behind each African item. The second volume examines the most representative artistic items from Gabon and Congo Republic, backed with illustrations.
Jean-Claude Gouigoux also has a website (masque-art-africain.com) on which he introduces his visitors to the production and the meaning of African art. Gouigoux also puts on sale African and traditional art items.
