An exhibition entitled “In the Steps of the Buddha” is currently taking place at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Melbourne from 17 December 2011 to 3 June 2012.
Almost 80 works of Hindu and Buddhist art from the NGV’s collections will be featured in the exhibition, which will explore the development of Buddhist imagery in Asia, ranging from the earliest Indian creations from the 2nd century to contemporary Chinese ink works. Sculptures of the Buddha, bodhisattva, and Buddhist deities in bronze, wood, clay, and enamel as well as objects of worship, pilgrimage souvenirs, masks, and manuscript covers in a range of styles and materials will also be featured in the exhibition.
